About the Artist

Doua Jai YangHello! My name is Doua Jai Yang (also known as DJ) and I currently live in Minnesota. I’m twenty three years old. Art has always been a huge part of my life since I had been drawing when I was young. It was until high school of my junior year that I seriously decided to major in art of some kind and in my senior year, I narrowed my choices to either a comic artist or two dimensional animator. I am still contemplating the two choices, but for now, I am leaning more towards comic arts. Maybe I’ll minor in animation.

I mostly draw anime-manga style, which is just the Japanese style cartoons. I love watching anime and reading manga, but I always read more manga than watch anime. Shockingly, it was Avatar: The Last Airbender TV show aired on Nickelodeon that threw me down the path of wanting to become a two dimensional animator. I would still very much like to try it, since I have very little experience in that field.

I love drawing in both traditional and digital media. Traditionally I use Copic sketch markers, Prismacolor markers and colored pencils, Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolor half pans, Faber-Castell pens and watercolor pencils, copic mulitiliners, Derwent coloursoft and inktense pencils, Sakura Micron pens, black india ink, and nibs (which consists of 102, 107 and G-pen). Digitally I use Photoshop 7, Easy Paint Tool SAI and a Wacom bamboo fun tablet small. I love to mix my medias because you can get different kinds of textures.
